Wichita’s aviation legacy shaped the creative direction of this mural for Simon Property Group at Towne East Square. Long recognized as the Air Capital of the World, the city has played a defining role in American aircraft manufacturing for generations.
The artwork draws on that history through an aviation-inspired composition, complemented by sunflowers and imagery that connects the installation to Kansas. Rather than functioning as decoration alone, the mural was conceived as a site-specific visual connection between the shopping destination and the community it serves.
Placed within the retail environment of Towne East Square, the large-scale artwork brings Wichita’s identity into an everyday public setting. The project demonstrates how thoughtfully commissioned murals can contribute to placemaking across commercial properties.
